Ultimate Chocolate Milkshake
Milkshakes are simple but popular drinks that are made with ice cream, milk, and syrup, all blended together for a smooth, refreshing treat. With some added chocolate frosting around the rim of the glass, coated with chocolate chips, I didn’t stop there in this shake. I had to add a few homemade brownie pieces on top of the shake for a milkshake that is as decorated as it is delicious!
If you just want a plain ole Chocolate Milkshake, just ignore all this fun stuff and follow the “chocolate milkshake” portion of the recipe in the recipe card below.
Chocolate Milkshake Recipe
There are three main parts to this recipe–the chocolate glass rim, the milkshake, and the brownies on top! The ‘cool’ thing about this recipe (besides the shake, of course), is that you can make your own chocolate syrup, chocolate frosting, and brownies.
Milkshake Ingredients (full recipe below)
- Ice cream
- Whole milk
- Chocolate syrup–Make your own homemade chocolate syrup for this recipe!
Brownie Topping
- Premade batch of brownies, or make your own with the best brownies recipe!
How to Make the Chocolate Buttercream Frosting
The first thing you will want to have on hand are two drinking glasses, the frosting, and the mini chocolate chips. In this recipe, I prefer to use unsalted butter as I find unsalted butter to be fresher tasting and consistent in the water ratio. When you are aiming for perfect consistency, using a consistent product is important.
To make the buttercream frosting, mix together the butter, confectioners’ sugar, cocoa powder, salt, and heavy whipping cream in a medium bowl. Mix until creamy.
Chocolate Frosting Rim
The chocolate rim is such a neat (and tasty) detail in this milkshake. To coat the rims of your glasses, roll the top part of each glass in the chocolate buttercream frosting. I used a knife to smooth it out around the rim. Then, add the mini chocolate chips to the frosting, pressing them in so they stick to the frosting. Next, make the milkshake to pour into the glasses.
How to Make the Chocolate Milkshake
Ever since the blender was invented in 1922, milkshakes have become smooth and frothy desserts that are easy to make and even easier to enjoy. I stuck with the traditional three milkshake ingredients, but then I made it stand out by adding more chocolate to the glass and as a topping!
To make the milkshake, simply add the ice cream, milk, and chocolate syrup to a blender. Blend on high until fully blended. Pour the milkshake about 3/4 of the way in each glass and top with the pieces of brownies. Enjoy with homemade whipped cream on top!
