Bacon Rosemary Puff Pastry Tree
This appetizer is so fun to serve to a crowd! The tree shape is perfect for holiday gatherings, and for how beautiful it is, it’s actually quite simple to put together. Bring this pastry along with a Cranberry Pecan Cheese Ball and your appetizers are sure to be a hit at any party this year!
Bacon Rosemary Tree Ingredients
Pastry: I used store-bought for this recipe. If you want to make a homemade puff pastry, you could use the pastry recipe from my apple turnovers!
Bacon: I prefer thick cut bacon for this recipe, but you could use thin cut or regular cut as well.
Herbs: I added both rosemary and thyme to this recipe. These flavors pair so well with the bacon and cheeses.
How to Store
Leftover Bacon Rosemary Puff Pastry can be stored in the refrigerator for up to three days. The pastry may not be as flaky as it was when freshly baked, but it will still be delicious!
Bacon Rosemary Puff Pastry Tree
Ingredients
Compound Butter
- ½ cup (1 stick / 113 g) unsalted butter, softened
- 1 teaspoon rosemary
- 2 teaspoons ground thyme
- ½ teaspoon kosher salt
- ½ cup bacon, cooked and crumbled
Pastry
- 2 sheets frozen puff pastry, thawed according to package directions
- ½ cup (56.5 g) mozzarella cheese, shredded
- 1 large egg, beaten
- ¼ cup (25 g) parmesan cheese, grated
Instructions
Compound Butter
- To a medium bowl, add the butter, rosemary, thyme, salt and bacon. Stir to combine. Set aside while you prepare the pastry
Pastry
- Preheat oven to 350°F. Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Place one sheet of puff pastry onto the prepared baking sheet.
- Spread the butter mixture in a triangular tree shape over the puff pastry.
- Sprinkle the mozzarella over the butter mixture.
- Place the second puff pastry sheet on top. Gently press the pastry sheet down to feel where the outline of the tree shaped butter and cheese is. Using a sharp knife, carefully cut along the edges of the tree shape. Remove the excess pastry.
- Leaving about 2 inches in the center of the tree intact for the "trunk", carefully cut horizontal strips up the tree on both sides of the "trunk" (about 2 inches wide). These strips will be the "branches".
- Carefully twist each "branch" of pastry away from you about 2-3 times.
- Brush the pastry with the beaten egg. Sprinkle the parmesan cheese over the pastry.
- Bake for 18-22 minutes, or until golden brown.
