Two Drunken Mermaid Cocktails

Drunken Mermaid

The name of this drink is enough to make you want to check out this alcoholic beverage. It is a drink that is made with Blue Curacao, a blue liqueur that I will get more into detail about in a bit. The colorful drink will make you feel like you are relaxing on an island in the comfort of your own home!

Two Drunken Mermaid Cocktails with Ingredients Behind

Drunken Mermaid Ingredients

Vodka: Use your preferred brand of vodka in this drink.

Blue Curacao: This is a blue liqueur with a citrus flavor, similar to triple sec. If you can’t find Blue Curacao at your local liquor store, you can substitute Triple Sec or Grand Marnier.

Simple Syrup: Simple syrup is used on cakescupcakes, and, of course, in cocktails like this one. If you don’t have any on hand, it’s super easy to make your own simple syrup.

Hard Seltzer: With all the brands of spiked sparkling water out there, choose your favorite. I used a watermelon-flavored can of White Claw. You will not need the entire 12-ounce can in this drink. You can also choose whatever FLAVOR White Claw you prefer! I love the watermelon, but lime would be amazing too!

Adding Liquor to Drunken Mermaid Cocktail

What is Blue Curacao?

Blue Curacao is a blue liqueur that is made from the orange peels of dried Lahara citrus fruit. The fruit is grown on the island of Curacao. The blue color comes from added food coloring, and it is similar in taste to triple sec because of the citrus flavor. It is used in drinks like this Drunken Mermaid, a Blue Lagoon, and a Blue Hawaiian, among other blue drinks.

Drunken Mermaid Cocktail in the Sun

No Shaker? No Problem!

If you don’t have a shaker, simply use a to-go coffee mug with a solid lid. Fill the mug up with ice, just like in a shaker, add all the ingredients, cover the mouth opening, and get shakin’! When you are ready to pour the contents into the glass, just open up the mouth opening and pour. The lid should hold the ice back so you just get the chilled beverage.
